ATHENRY FIRE BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL

A fire in an apartment in Athenry last night was quickly brought under control by local fire fighters.

Two units of Athenry Fire Brigade were called to the scene of the blaze in an apartment at Bridge Street in the town shortly after 9.20.

Nobody was in the building at the time and the fire was quickly brought under control.

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – The Mám Éan pilgrammage is set to take place in Connemara this weekend.

The popular pilgramage to Mám Éan pass, nestled in the Maumturk mountains, has previously been cancelled due to Covid-19.

However, it’s set to resume this Sunday with some restrictions in place.

Gatherers will remain at the chapel and will not move from station to station as is usually tradition.

Former Councillor Sean O’ Tuairisg says it’s great to have the event back this weekend.

Protest to take place in Mervue this afternoon over planned housing development

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – A protest will take place in Mervue this afternoon over a planned “build to rent” housing development in the area.

The Crown Square Development will consist of 345 units comprised of one-bed, two-bed and three-bed units.

However, People Before Profit Galway says it’s unacceptable that the homes will go straight to an investment fund when completed.

They argue that vulture and cuckoo funds should be banned in Ireland – but instead they are being accomodated by Government policy.

The local party branch has organised a protest to take place at the Crown Square site this afternoon at 2pm.

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Gardaí are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on the N83 at Knockdoe, Co. Galway

Gardaí were alerted to the incident at approximately 7.15am this morning when a car and a tractor collided.

Investigations are ongoing at this time.
