Well, it’s that time of year again for a little look back – and forward – at what has happened and what might happen over the coming year. Part one of the alphabetical guide follows on in a mix of the personal and the global – maybe not all of it to be taken too seriously. Anyway, here goes!
A is for Argentina and the great joy that they brought to the world of sport with their flamboyant World Cup success in Qatar – a place the competition should never have been fixed for in the first place. It was just wondrous to see Lionel Messi at 35-years of age lifting the greatest trophy of the soccer world. B is for all the little battles that we all have to fight to get through difficult days like when the car won’t start; you get a puncture on a wet evening on the way home from work; you have a cough that just won’t go away; and you start to have little worries about much more time you have on this little earth. The only solution is to battle on and to take each day for what it’s worth.
C is for all the so-called ‘characters’ of this world: the lads we might meet in the local watering always with a tale to tell or a song to sing who will never be known outside their own little circle of friends but who make up a vital part of our wider social families.
