An Bord Pleanála has given the go-ahead for the €104 million Bonham Quay office development and adjacent €25m accommodation scheme for 345 students at Galway Docks.

Property developer Gerry Barrett has been informed of the decision by the board and is understood to be ready to begin work on the site.

The Bonham Quay project will see around 500 people employed during construction and will create space for 2,600 office workers.

A spokesperson for Mr Barrett’s Edward Capital company described the Board’s decision as “a huge vote of confidence in Galway”.

The projects were first mooted in Spring of 2017, but were delayed due to appeals to An Bord Pleanála and a planning oral hearing requested by one of the appellants.
