Galway Bay fm newsroom – A structure, which is almost 4 thousand years old has been removed from Connemara by archaeologists.
A team from the Underwater Archaeology Unit has excavated the entire oak structure from the shoreline at Lippa, near Spiddal.
The structure resembled a trackway and was discovered earlier this year after weather conditions exposed it.
According to today’s Irish Times, researchers believe the entire area is a ‘time capsule’ of life before sea levels rose.
The oak structure, thought to date back 3 thousand 700 years has been taken into State care for analysis.
It’s hoped it can eventually be re-housed at the City Museum.
