Storyteller and musician Aindrias de Staic, a well-known figure on Galway’s arts scene will bring his new show, By The Light of the Silvery Moon to Áras Éanna, Inis Oírr, on Wednesday, August 13, as part of a national tour.
Aindrias’s style of storytelling is irreverent and bawdy, fast and furious, and he’s promising “magic, myth and music” as he interacts with percussionist Brian Fleming and harpist Aisling Lyons who are collaborating with him to create an exhilarating, entertaining fusion of story and sound.
Inspired by folklore, nature and traditional arts, Aindrias will bring audiences on a journey through bumpy roads and hidden boreens, through scary scenes and magical places.
This is a show that’s strictly for grown-ups as it celebrates Ireland’s living heritage, where ancient voices meet modern ears.
Aindrias has worked as a presenter on TG4 and is also known for his comic turns on RTÉ’s The Hardy Bucks.
Having lived and performed as a troubadour all over the world, he is now based on the family farm in Ennistymon, County Clare.
His late father, Eddie Stack, who died in 2016, was a writer, musician, storyteller and a folklore collector, and during Covid, Aindrias spent time with his father’s work.
Living in a caravan which had no electricity, he listened to Eddie’s tapes of mythic lore and also read from his writings by candlelight. Now he has gone on to weave these tales into a tapestry of vivid characters and stories.
Dedicated to reviving Ireland’s bardic tradition, Aindrias, whose inspirations include poets Antoine Ó Raifteirí and Brian Merriman, has honed a contemporary seanchaí style that’s rooted in the West of Ireland and which has earned him praise from the likes of Manchán Magan and Tommy Tiernan.
By The Light of the Silvery Moon will begin its tour on August 8 in Birr and will take in venues right across the country, but, as of now, Áras Éanna is its only Galway outing. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.ie.
