A Tiny Mutiny will take place in The Mall, Tuam, on Saturday, February 1, at 3pm, celebrating creativity and innovation among teenagers from right across the county.
This free event, which is open to all, is showcasing the work of young artists, filmmakers, musicians and animators, with the aim of inspiring audiences of all ages. The teenagers whose work is being featured were part of the Tiny Mutiny Project Awards 2024 and First Sparks 2024, an initiative commissioned by Galway County Council Arts Office in partnership with Tuam arts group Sparkcatchers! It offered people aged 13-17 an opportunity to realise their artistic visions, under the guidance of professional mentors and access to a production budget.
Led by Jojo Hynes and Midie Corcoran, Sparkcatchers! have a reputation as artists, producers and festival-makers who work to empower young people create exceptional art. Inspired by international projects like Broei in The Netherlands, and an initiative called Tiny Mutiny at the 2022 Baboró children’s arts festival, Tiny Mutiny 2024 is helping to pave the way for a new generation of artists in Galway.
As part of the celebrations on February 1, Tiny Mutiny 2025 will be launched, and young artists or groups with unique ideas are encouraged to apply to take part in that. They can be working in theatre, visual art, dance, film, music, digital media, or other creative disciplines.
Selected participants will receive a professional mentor to guide their creative journey, as well as a budget for materials, practical support and opportunities to showcase their work at an arts event in September.
Teenagers aged 13-17 living in County Galway can apply (excluding Galway City residents). Tiny Mutiny 2025 is open to individuals or groups with innovative ideas for creative projects in any artistic medium, and to young people who are seeking mentorship, production advice, and a platform to share their work.
The deadline for applications is midnight on March 19. For more details or to apply, visit: www.sparkcatchers.org/tiny-mutiny-25.
