A prize-fund of over €230,000 will be up for grabs over the two-day Galway September meeting at Ballybrit next week.
Monday’s fixture is an all-National Hunt card with the action scheduled to start at 4.40pm, but there is a strong prospect of one of the seven races being divided such are the strong level of entries.
The feature race is the €17,500 Deacy Gilligan Hurdle which has attracted the likes of former Champion Hurdle contender Darver Star and Cheltenham Festival winner The Shunter among the entries.
The highlight of Tuesday’s action on the flat is the listed €40,000 Ardilaun Hotel Oyster Stakes which was won by the Dermot Weld trained 5/2 favourite Haparanda 12 months ago. The eight-race card gets underway at 4:05pm.
Michael Moloney, Chief Executive of Galway Racecourse, revealed that between rainfall and irrigation 137mms had fallen on the track since the Summer Festival.
