Get ready to blast those Monday blues as drummer Ralph Rolle brings an evening with a difference to the Róisín Dubh on November 7. Rolle will host a drum clinic, which he promises will be “a session in music and life”.
As well being a member of Chic with Nile Rodgers, Ralph has also played with Sting, Bono, Bette Midler, Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Slash, Erykah Badu, John Legend, Paul Simon Elvis Costello and Smokey Robinson.
“My clinics aren’t just for drummers, they’re for all musicians and singers,” Ralph says. “My approach is to not only teach but to motivate through my life experiences. People can expect to learn about aspects of drumming and music that will give them my perspectives and viewpoints of how to get and keep a gig. One of the hardest things for a musician is to break into the business. I will show what I did to get in and continue to work for almost 40 years.”
Ralph played with Chic for their excellent 2012 Galway Arts Festival show, and is full of praise for band-leader Nile Rodgers.
“Working with Nile has been one of the greatest music experiences I’ve had to date,” he says. “It’s been 10 years that I’ve been in the band. We always enjoy playing together. The entire band is amazing. What I’ve learned specifically from Nile is that music is the most important aspect of what we do but being a good business person is also very important.”
This promises to be a unique night in Galway’s music calendar. Get ready to Rolle!
It starts at 6pm and tickets are €15.
