700,000 euro to protect 11 archaeological monuments in Galway

Just under 700 thousand euro has been awarded to protect archaeological monuments in Galway

It’s part of a 7.5 million euro national allocation by Heritage Minister James Browne

The grants will help owners and custodians of archaeological monuments to safeguard them into the future.

In the city 130,000 euro has been allocated for Menlough Castle and 120,000 euro for St Nicholas Collegiate Church

In the county: Ballinasloe Town Wall and Kilcooley will each get just under 101,000 euro

Temple Jarlath just under 100,000 euro

Castlehacket and Issertkelly both getting just under 30,000 euro

Killeely has been allocated €29,500

Rathgurreen Ringfort and Community Monuments StoryMaps Phase 2 will both get just over 9,000 euro

Finally Kilboght Graveyard will get just under 8,000 euro
