38 thousand euro Údarás expenses paid to County Councillor

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Former Údarás na Gaeltachta board member, Councillor Seosamh Ó Cuaig received almost 40 thousand euro in fees and expenses in 2012.

According to today’s Irish Independent, more than 400 thousand euro was paid to the board of the development company in the past two years.

According to Údarás officials, many of the expenses payments were as a result of board members travelling from various Gaeltacht areas around the country.

The majority of board meetings were held at the Údarás na Gaeltachta headquarters in Furbo.

County Councillor Seosamh Ó Cuaig received 38 thousand 870 euro from Údarás in 2012.

This was made up of almost 9 thousand euro in fees and almost 30 thousand euro in expenses.

However, according to the Independent Councillor, these expenses related to an 8-year period.

Shared e-scooter firm says Galway city rollout would involve fleet of up to 400

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A shared e-scooter firm says a city the size of Galway could be catered for with a fleet of up to 400.

Superpedestrian, which specialises in transportation robotics and human-scale mobility, will hold a demonstration in the city next week to discuss the safe integration of shared e-scooters in Galway city and across Ireland.

It’s the third third in a series of e-scooter demonstration events across the country.

The event takes place at Galway United Football Club, Eamonn Deacy Park next Wednesday.

It comes as the government yesterday approved a bill that will allow them to be used on public roads.

They’re not legal at the moment under road traffic laws – but when they are, tax, insurance and driving licences won’t be needed.

UHG most overcrowded hospital nationwide today

Galway Bay fm newsroom – UHG is the most overcrowded hospital nationwide today.

54 patients are waiting at the city acute hospital, with 48 at the emergency department and six on wards elsewhere.

Letterkenny University Hospital, also in the Saolta Group, is the next most overcrowded with 48 waiting.

According to the latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, there are 373 patients waiting in emergency departments nationwide, while 76 are in wards elsewhere.

Galway records 4% drop in PUP claims over last week

Galway Bay fm newsroom – There is a continued fall in the number of pandemic unemployment payments being issued, with Galway recording an almost 4% drop in the last week.

Just over 4,700 people in Galway city and county will receive the State support this week.

Nationally, over 93 thousand people will receive the PUP this week, a fall of over 3,700 compared to last week.

The greatest reduction this week is in the accommodation and food services sector, as it has been for the past 19 weeks.
