Galway Bay fm newsroom – 2.5 million euro has been sanctioned for an NUI Galway spin-out which is taking on the global challenge of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Westway Health was set up in 2012 to commercialise a breakthrough antimicrobial technology developed in NUI Galway’s School of Natural Sciences.
Since its inception, the company has won multiple awards and is developing a product for use in the dairy sector, based on its patented technology.
The funding will be used to advance the development of the company’s lead product in development for the treatment of bovine mastitis.

University Hospital Cork is the most overcrowded with 70 patients waiting for a bed while 56 people are waiting for a bed in UHG
In Portiuncula Hospital there are 14 people waiting on trolleys
The latest Trolleywatch figures from the INMO show that nationally 529 patients are without a bed today
HSE says it’s on track to deliver X-Ray services at Tuam Primary Care Centre
Galway Bay fm newsroom- The HSE has confirmed it’s still on track to deliver X-Ray services at Tuam Primary Care Centre early next year.
A meeting of the Health Forum West this week heard it continues to work with a Public/Private Partnership Company with plans to commence works towards the end of the year.
All going well, the X-Ray and Diagnostics service will be operational by the second quarter of next year.
Local TD fears end of COVID payment will accelerate its spread in workplaces
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A local TD fears that the ceasing of the COVID-19 illness payment will accelerate the spread of the virus in workplaces.
Roscommon/Galway TD Denis Naughton claims there are more than 4,000 people unable to work – after the special payment ended last Friday.
Deputy Naughton says it has resulted people receiving a disability payment from the Department of Social Protection instead.
He is calling for a proper treatment plan for long COVID and is expressing the following concerns:
