Woman charged with theft from city bank

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A 41-year-old woman appeared before Galway District Court charged with the theft of almost €31,000 from AIB in the city ten years ago.
Sergeant Noel Sweeney gave evidence of arresting and charging Maureen Folan, of 5 Inistemple, Kinlough, Co. Leitrim yesterday morning at 9.50a.m.
Maureen Folan is charged with the theft of varying amounts of cash, totalling €30,950, from AIB, Newcastle Road in the city on dates between August 5th, 2004 and May 25th, 2005.
Sgt. Noel Sweeney said the accused replied “I deny all the charges. I’m not guilty,” when 17 charges of theft were put to her.
He confirmed she was single, had four children and was not working.
Inspector Ernie White said the DPP had directed the matter go forward for trial to the Circuit Criminal Court.
Judge Mary Fahy granted free legal aid to Ms Folan and remanded her on bail to appear before the court again on December 17th for service of a book of evidence.
