Trolley figures at UHG decrease slightly

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Trolley figures at the Emergency Department at University Hospital Galway have decreased slightly since last year.
According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, the total number of people on trolleys in A&E at the city hospital was 1,385 between January and April last year, compared to 1,348 for the same period this year.
The figures were revealed at the INMO’s conference which is underway today.
Meanwhile, Portiuncula Hospital has dramatically reduced its Emergency Department Trolley figure from 527 in the first 4 months of last year, compared to 278 this year.
The INMO statistics also show that there are more than 110 beds closed at hospitals and care facilities in Galway city and county.
The organisation says patient safety is being compromised by cuts to nurses and midwives.
General Secretary Liam Doran says nurses are overworked and understaffed.
