Spiddal to host public meeting on Galway Bay energy test site

A public meeting on the proposed expansion of the Galway Bay Marine and Renewable Energy Test Site will take place in Spiddal this evening (Monday).
It follows last month’s extension of the deadline for public submissions on the site following local representations – the third such extension in recent months.
Locals argue that key stakeholders have not been included in the process – and many people in the area still don’t fully understand the situation as information has not been forthcoming.
The closing date for submissions on the proposed upgrade of the site, situated on the North side of Galway Bay 1 mile East of Spiddal, is Friday September 9th.
Fine Gael Gaeltacht Minister Sean Kyne has stated that this will be the last extension on public submissions on the proposed expansion.
The public meeting will take place at the Park Lodge Hotel in Spiddal at 8pm.
Local resident Máire Ni Fhéinne says there has been little engagement with local groups – and the overall situation has been mishandled.
