Galway’s two local authorities have begun the process of turning Galway Airport into a creative media hub.
As joint owners of the Carnmore facility, Galway City Council and Galway County have invited tenders from film and television companies interested in production.
In 2014, when the councils purchased the site from Galway Chamber, the local authorities commissioned a study in order to determine the most effective course of action for the reuse of this strategic property for the benefit of Galway and the wider region.
One option identified as providing economic benefit to the region was using the hangers on the site for providing a film and TV and creative media studios and facilities.
This week the councils invited expressions of interest from suitably qualified enterprises that can demonstrate a track record in film and TV production, or creative media and experience in developing and operating a film or TV studio.
