Celebrating the release of his impressive new album, Dream Your Way Out Of This One, Niall Connolly comes to Róisín Dubh on Thursday, September 28. The album opens with Sacre Coeur, a song that starts out sparsely but builds into a soaring tune. The title track is a gem, with Niall’s voice kicking the tune off over a rollicking drum beat.
This album is a collaboration between Niall and his long-term New York band of Dennis Cronin, Chris Foley, Len Monachello and Brandon Wilde. It also features a guest appearance from Javier Más, a phenomenal multi-instrumentalist who played with Leonard Cohen. Glen Hansard also features – the pair have known each other for a long time, and Niall joined Hansard at Dublin’s Apollo House protests over homelessness last year.
Niall cut his musical teeth in his native Cork in the 1990s. Now living in New York with his wife, he has continued his craft in the Big Apple and has been praised by The Chicago Tribune for ‘his disarming and beautifully crafted folk-pop’. He plays regular weekly sessions in different parts of that city and also curates songwriter sessions. Very much a modern troubadour, he plays shows wherever the music calls him, whether that be in America’s remote towns, or venues throughout Europe.
This show will bring him to his home country, armed with a bunch of old and new songs that deserve to be heard. Doors 9pm, admission €10.
