Damien Dempsey returns to Galway on Thursday, June 8, when he brings his band to the City’s Black Box.
The inimitable Dubliner will be playing songs from his new album Soul Sun which is due for release at the end of May. Punters can also expect to hear ‘Damo’ classics like It’s All Good, Bustin’ Outta Here and Sing All Our Cares Away.
As his thousands of fans will confirm, a Damien Dempsey show is a special experience. He engages with the crowd in a full-on uplifting way even as his songs explore dark themes of drug addiction, depression and poverty.
He fuses Irish music with reggae, folk and a good dash of rock, to create his own unique sound as he follows a rich tradition of Irish singers including Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew, Christy Moore and Andy Irvine. The Guardian has described him as “one of Ireland’s great singer-songwriters”.
In his live shows, Damien Dempsey sets out to give his audience a natural high by writing and performing songs that engage people and get them singing along. That’s his ambition and you can put your money on it that he’ll do the same in June. Tickets for his Black Box show are €25 online at monroes.ie.
