The next President of Ireland could come from Galway.
Galway West T.D and Labour Party President, Michael D. Higgins says he will seek his party’s nomination for the presidency.
It follows the announcement last week by Barnardos CEO, Fergus Finlay, that he too would be seeking the Labour nomination for the role.
Deputy Higgins says he has a ‘very good’ chance of securing the nomination and has told the Labour Party Parliamentary Party of his intention.

Labour is expected to decide on who will secure the nomination on September 30th.
