Metal music with a Finnish twist from Eurovision winners Lordi
Our ReporterEntertainment
In one of the most off-the-wall additions to the musical calendar, Lordi come to Monroe’s Live next Thursday, November 10. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, perhaps these lyrics will: Hard Rock! Hallelujah!. And if that’s not bringing anything to mind either, then remember the metal band in masks that won the Eurovision in 2006? Well, that’s Lordi.
Hailing from Finland, the country with the largest amount of metal bands per capita in the world, Lordi are perhaps its most famous musical export. Formed by band leader (and chief costume maker) Mr Lordi in 1992, this gang are absolute demons for touring. This European tour has taken up most of October and finishes in London at the end of November. In 2017, the band will embark on a jaunt through Canada and the States.
Lordi’s latest album is Monstereophonic, which was released earlier this year and produced by Nino Laurenne, who had previously worked with the band on their 2008 release, Deadache.
To date, Lordi have made eight albums and, while it’s tempting to scoff at the costumes, there is a demand for the band. They have been invited to perform at the Ozzfest, a mark of respect for any metal group. It’s unlikely you’ll see s gig like this in Galway again. It’s also a good idea to bring earplugs!
