Locals to meet Marine Institute officials over Galway Bay test site

Concerned locals from the Spiddal area are to meet officials at the Marine Institute in Oranmore today in a bid to get further information on the proposed extension of the Galway Bay Marine and Energy Test site.
It follows last month’s extension of the deadline for public submissions on the site following local representations – the third such extension in recent months.
Locals argue that key stakeholders have not been included in the process – and many people in the area still don’t fully understand the plan.
A public meeting to discuss such concerns was held in Spiddal earlier this week.
The closing date for submissions on the proposed upgrade of the site, situated on the North side of Galway Bay 1 mile East of Spiddal, is Friday September 9th.
Local resident Máire Ni Fhéinne says some locals will travel to the marine institute in Renville today in their bid to obtain further information.
