HSE in bid to get emigrant nurses back to Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE says it’s offering improved career development opportunities to Irish nurses working in the UK in a bid to get them to come home to fill vacancies in Galway’s hospitals.
The issue was raised by Tuam area councillor Mary Hoade at this week’s meeting of the HSE Regional Health Forum West.
The HSE says it’s recruited 33 nurses in Galway in the last two months, and is continuing its efforts to bring Irish nurses home to work in UHG and Merlin Park.
Chief Operating Officer Tony Canavan says given current resources, it’s difficult for the HSE to compete with UK trusts, which tend to offer better salaries.
Councillor Mary Hoade says she’s satisfied that the HSE is doing all it can to bring nurses home.
