Galway led survey finds half of city drinkers deemed hazardous

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A survey examining alcohol consumption in Galway has found that over half of those questioned were hazardous drinkers.
The study was initiated by the Galway Healthy Cities Alcohol Forum and surveyed over 500 people aged 18 and over.
Of those who drink at 79 percent, over half were deemed hazardous drinkers.
The study also found that one in four people has been harmed by someone else’s drinking.
In this category, family problems were the most common at 15 percent.
Attitudes to underage drinking were also examined.
The study found that although adults consider underage drinking as the number one problem in Galway city, many believe that it’s acceptable to give alcohol to 15-17 year olds at home.
