The Gaeltacht Minister is being urged to attend a meeting later this week to discuss the future of the ferry service to the Aran Islands.
An emergency meeting was held on Inis Mor last evening after Comharchumann Forbartha Arann Teo received notice from Island Ferries Teoranta that the service would cease operating on January 17th.
When contacted by Galway Bay fm news, Island Ferries Teoranta would not confirm or deny reports that it is to end it’s service to Inis Mór.
It’s understood the ferry company is meeting with Roinn na Gaeltachta today to discuss the situation.
Comharchumann Forbartha Arann Teo is contacting Connemara councillors and Galway TDs, inviting them to attend a meeting on Friday on the future of the service.
Spokesperson Cathy Ni Ghoill says island residents want a guaranteed ferry service.
