Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Gaeltacht Minister says there is hope that the provision of a ferry service to the Aran Islands could come before the county council at a meeting later this month. (19dec)
The ferry service to Inis Mór will resume this evening, while talks continue to find a long term solution with regard to a year-round service.
Island Ferries, Minister and Galway West/ South Mayo T.D, Seán Kyne and County CEO Kevin Kelly met for talks today as Inis Mór residents faced into a second day without a ferry service.
The Island Ferries service ceased on Wednesday, and was due to remain out of action until March over issues including passenger levies.
However the company has now committed to resuming the service from Kilronan at 5 o’ clock this evening and continuing the passenger travel until January 4th.
Minister Seán Kyne says it’s a reprieve for islanders over the Christmas period and hopes ongoing talks can secure a resolution.
