City conference to explore right to refuse medical treatment

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A major public conference on the right to consent to or refuse medical treatment is taking place in the city today
‘Consent and Refusal: Mental Health, Human Rights and the Law’ is part of a research project being conducted at the Institute for Lifecourse and Society at NUI Galway.
The seminar will explore how human rights can guarantee the right to consent to or refuse medical treatment.
The public event is taking place at NUI Galway’s Centre for Disability Law from 9am today.
The gathering amid fears that some patients are agreeing to courses of treatment because they’re afraid of the consequences of refusing.
Dr Eilionóir Flynn is leading a research project on the topic called VOICES.
