‘My Galway My Culture’ exhibition planned for September
Amateur photographers across Galway and beyond have a great opportunity to have their photos published in print and online and win a luxury weekend away in the process.
In association with the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture bid, the Connacht Tribune today launches a photography competition open to anyone with a camera or a smart phone who sends us images of what culture means to them.
Called ‘My Galway, My Culture’ the competition reflects the fact that ‘Culture’ means something different to each one of us, so the Galway 2020 bid will signify something unique for everyone.
Anyone with a camera or smart phone is asked to use their lens to portray what culture means to them. The summer experiences throughout Galway communities, family events, festivals, sporting, and holidays will showcase many snapshots of the city and county as it comes alive with a myriad of spectacle in so many shapes and forms both on land and along Galway’s stunning coastline on the Wild Atlantic Way.
Dave Hickey of the Connacht Tribune says, ‘We want to know what ‘culture’ means to you and we want you to use photography to tell us.
‘So whether it’s horticulture or aquaculture, viniculture or local culture, art, traditional music, our beautiful landscapes or one of the many events happening over the next six weeks, we want you to photograph it and send it to us.
The competition runs until the end of August and will be followed by an exhibition of some of the top entries at the Print Works Gallery during September.
A panel of professionals led by local photographer Andrew Downes will judge all entries and select the winner.
‘Entries will be published in the newspapers and online as they are sent in so the sooner people send us in images the more we’ll be able to publish,’ says Dave Hickey.
‘All entries will be added to our dedicated online gallery at www.connachttribune.ie/2020photo
A luxury weekend away will be the prize for the winner and further prizes may be added in the coming weeks.
The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over who is not a professional photographer. There is no restriction on the number of times a person can enter.
Entries can be emailed to photos@ctribune.ie or uploaded directly at www.connachttribune.ie/2020photo
