Galway Bay fm newsroom – There is a call for immediate drainage work on the Grange river near Tuam, after it burst its banks and flooded farmland in recent days.
Cattle were marooned at Barbersfort after the river burst its banks and crops in the area have been destroyed.
The bursting of the river bank has left more than 20 acres of land in the area under water.
The Irish Times reports that the Office of Public Works had confirmed that work would be carried out on the river 2 years ago, but was pushed back.
Local area councillor, Peter Roche says the river has been neglected in terms of maintenance.
He’s called on the OPW to immediately address the situation.
In a statement, the body says that heavy and prolonged rainfall has resulted in flood levels on the river Clare rising significantly.
