The 275th anniversary performance of Messiah will take place next Saturday, December 9, at 7.30pm in Galway Cathedral as part of Music for Galway’s Winter season.
It will be presented by the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Resurgam Choir, directed by Peter Whelan, with soprano Sarah Power, mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty, tenor Peter Harris and bass Brian McAlea.
Composed in an extraordinary three-week burst of creativity, Handel’s Messiah premiered on April 13, 1742, to great excitement.
Irish Baroque Orchestra’s annual production of Handel’s masterpiece is a glorious affair and one of the most popular events in the Music for Galway calendar.
Joined by outstanding soloists and the wonderful Resurgam choir, IBO’s performance tells the universal story of triumph over trial, where life’s sorrows and despairs are met by overriding hope and unbridled joy. Definitely a concert that’s needed in the current climate!
